I am returning to the hypothetical from yesterday and answering the question, "Toward what cause am I willing to sacrifice my life?"
My answer isn't 100% final, but it is pretty close. It is going to take some more thinking and reflection to tie everything together. But at least I've got the path defined.
Without further ado. The... answer... is...
...
...
Strengthening the weakest links!
What do I mean by that? Let me explain...
"A chain is only as strong as its weakest link." I've had this quote in my head for a while now. For most of human history, the saying seems to have been "Only the strongest links in the chain are worth attention."
Whether in a Monarchy or a modern Western Democracy, the majority of power/resources are held at the top. The bottom is left largely defenseless. Any reforms for a better life must come with a lot of struggle and often comes with bloodshed.
From an evolutionary point of view (talking out my ass here), I suppose this makes sense. Those who are deemed most worthy of passing on genes receive the most attention. Those on the short end of the stick, get less.
The problem is that we do not judge evolutionary fitness very well. Especially since "fitness" is often defined by the era and location one is living. Not to mention the millions of factors that each era/location assigns values to. (Sex, race, parents, height, weight, beauty, class, etc)
Perhaps this is due to the scarcity mindset? For most of human history we've had to deal with this mindset. The pie is finite so I better get what I can, when I can.
This clearly isn't the case. While the pie may be finite at any given moment, it grows over time.
This is going to take more research to identify the links that need the most attention. I'll also have to study ways that societies have overcome various weak points in history. I'm excited for this to start. Studying and learning is my favorite part.
I just need to make sure I continue taking action as well.
Let's do a quick little wrap up before I ramble any farther...
I'm going to identify at least 20 weak links in society. I'm then going to attempt to combine as many as I can into a single cause that I can organize behind. I'm going to take a US-centric approach initially, since that is where I will likely have the greatest impact. However, I'm also going to research global weak links to see how I might bridge into that arena at a later time.
